Access keys

The following access keys are used on this website, to enable visitors to navigate to the site's main pages using the keyboard.

On PCs running Windows and Internet Explorer v5+, press and hold the ALT key, press the access key number shown and then the enter key. Other platforms and browsers use different key combinations - for example, on a Mac, press control and an access key.

Text size

On all pages the text size can be increased through your browser settings. In IE, select View, then Text Size, and then increase the size as required. In Mozilla, select View and Increase text size.

Images

There are a lot of photos on this site, and they're all labelled with an "alt" tag describing the image.

Forms

The contact form has been designed to use several accessibility features, including the label tag, which means that it is easier to select form options like radio buttons. (Some of the features are visible only in non-Microsoft browsers, like Mozilla Firefox.)

Structured markup and valid code

It is my mission to produce tableless, cleanly coded pages that contain no unnecessary clutter. In the popular phrasing, I am 'working towards' this goal. The introductory pages on this site, and the more recent additions, are coded with XHTML (Strict) and CSS. These pages validated when checked. The earlier sections (York Walks), use tables, and were not validated, but follow many guidelines regarding increased accessibility, and I hope to improve these pages in the future.

All pages use a logical system of headings and sub-headings.
