end_begin_sign_270607_200sq.jpg After several months of struggling with deteriorating web hosting, I’ve bought new website hosting with tsohost.co.uk and have moved the thousands of files which make up this site to their servers.

I didn’t really want to start messing around with the site again, only weeks after I’d got the revamped pages back online, checked links, ironed out glitches. But I’d noticed that the page load times had become impossibly slow on occasions, to the point where the site was driving me mad, losing visitors, and no doubt being rather less favoured by the all-important Google.

While adding this new ‘News and Views’ section, and overhauling the whole website, I’ve tried to resolve the problem. The hosting company seemed to think there wasn’t one. But I know I’m not their only dissatisfied customer.

So, I hope these pages will be faster now. They couldn’t be any slower than they were. Pages were often taking so long to appear that it may have been more efficient to transmit the information via carrier pigeon or Aldis lamp.

Time to get on with adding more actual content to the site, which is what I’d far rather be doing.

Except to say thanks to John, for support and help with my database problems.

Thanks for making the move - it had got horribly slow, but is back up to ‘instant’ again now.

And I really like the new look front page, with the changing selection of photos. They really do say “York” to me, in a way that the Tourist Office and suchlike never do!

Thanks Andy, and sorry for the slowness. I appreciate the patience of anyone who waited for those pages to load. I just wish I hadn’t wasted time trying to resolve the issue by changing my coding/widget selections etc, when the problem was with the hosting server setup all along, clearly. They were 123-reg.co.uk, by the way. I didn’t choose them - I ended up with them after they took over the host Supanames who I’d opened the account with originally.

Thanks for your comments about the front page - glad it conveys what I hoped it would.
