This plaque was placed in remembrance by the Gresley Society on the fiftieth anniversary
29 April 1992

This floor plaque, at the National Railway Museum's Main Hall, records the scale of the damage to railway property on the night of the 'Baedeker raid' - reminding us perhaps that the city's importance as a main line station was of as much interest to the bombers as our historic buildings, and that railway infrastructure was a central target.

Another bomb severely damaged the nearby railway station, where there's a wall plaque in memory of Station Foreman William Milner.
